Dr. Maya Okonkwo

Dr. Maya Okonkwo, PhD, CMT

Dr. Maya Okonkwo is a somatic therapist, certified breathwork facilitator, and researcher specializing in trauma recovery and nervous system regulation. With a PhD in Clinical Psychology and 15 years of practice, she bridges ancient breathing techniques with modern neuroscience.

Maya developed this training after witnessing the profound impact of breath on her clients' healing—and the need for trauma-informed facilitators who understand both the power and the responsibility of this work. She believes breathwork should be accessible, safe, and taught with deep respect for the nervous system.

When she's not teaching, Maya is researching polyvagal theory applications, hiking in the mountains, or practicing her own breathwork ritual at sunrise.
